At their trade show booth at CES 2012 Las Vegas bathed in electric blue light, RIM representatives are showing off the new PlayBook features expected in February 2012. This may be a hopeful sign that good things are about to happen. When the upgrade is released, PlayBook will have standalone email, calendar and contacts applications, social media integration, a US only virtual movie store, folders for apps, and the ability to run "some" Android apps. Yes perhaps these features should have been in the original release, but I say better now than never. Perhaps we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel! Some anaylsts expect RIM to ship over 2M PlayBooks in RIM's 2012 fiscal year, but Apple shipped 11M iPads in their last reported Quarter, so there is a way to go yet.
