Welcome to Chartwell Group

“I shall not attempt to answer the question regarding what your business should be. First, one should not answer such a question off the top of one’s head. . . . secondly, one man’s opinion, no matter how brilliant, is at best one man’s opinion. I can only ask questions. The answers have to be yours.”*

Steve Jobs

“When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it… Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

SpaceX Starship explodes spectacularly after successful high-altitude test flight: December 10th, 2020: Elon Musk's Starship SN8 prototype, reminiscent of something Buck Rogers might have piloted, fell serenely and silently through the Texas sky for almost two minutes on Wednesday. Then its Raptor engines roared to life, righting the rocket into a vertical orientation in preparation for landing, but it was too little or too late -- or maybe some of both. A few seconds and one spectacular explosion later, SpaceX's latest next-generation rocket prototype followed its first successful high-altitude flight with a hard landing that's sure to be an instant member of the GIF and meme halls of fame...more

iPhone 12 drop test results are in: Ceramic shield is as tough as it sounds: Apple has covered its new iPhone 12 with a brand-new type of glass called "ceramic shield", which it says is the toughest glass ever on a smartphone. Every year Apple makes a similar claim about its glass, but this time may be different because this is no ordinary glass. While it may look and feel exactly like glass, the ceramic shield covering the screens is, as the name suggests, a combination of glass and ceramic (which is harder than most metals). It's a totally new cover material for the iPhone and it's unlike anything CNET has ever tested before. Perhaps now we won't have to pay $200 every time we drop our phone..more
NASA uncovers evidence of water (life?) on the moon...October 26th 2020: Two studies, published in the journal Nature Astronomy, rewrite the moon water story once again. In the first study, scientists examined the moon's face in infrared, zeroing in on the source of the chemical signature in exquisite clarity. They determined it's predominantly H2O that exists on the lunar surface, rather than hydroxyl. Although you won't be packing your Speedos and towel for a day on the lunar seas anytime soon, the pair of studies demonstrate the moon is more damp than we once believed and highlight the potential to utilize lunar resources in human and robotic exploration...more
